When I went for a ride, I fell right off the horse. Cracked my skull and I fell. My brains came out pouring out my head, My brains came out pouring out my head. I never remember to put on my helmet, I never remember to put on my helmet no. Oh Mary Anne, Will you toss me off your body? Will you toss me off your body? Mary Anne Mary Anne Mary Anne Mary Anne Mary Anne Toss me off your body. Crack my head and my brains will spill out my head that cracked when I fell off your body, Mary Anne. Everybody says I should be more careful, Everybody says to watch my step. Everybody says I should be more careful, Everybody says to watch my step. Who are they to tell me what to do? Who are they to tell me what to do Mary Anne? Maryanne I fell right off your body And my brains spilled out my cracked head, Mary Anne I fell off your body. I fell off your body, I fell off.

I know it's scary that you can't see me, but I'm here, don't worry. Oh please believe me. When I was just a young cockroach after the nuclear fallout, and the planet was in the middle of collapsing, I looked around for barren ice cream cones and half empty bags of chips cuz even just the crumbs would be enough. I just needed a little something for my cockroach tummy. And as I wandered the desolate landscape in search for something that could nourish me, I discovered a light off in the distance and it called to me. It was the first thing of its kind I had seen in such a long time. And so I pursued the light, and the distance was my battleground. One foot, next foot, next foot, one foot in front of the other.

about

Friends and collaborators bepeeker (John Charles Bricker) and SOUPS (Dakota Higgins) make music under the moniker Naming Things. Their debut LP, The Album is Called Split, is "split" into three discrete parts:

Part 1 features John Bricker's distinct sound -- something like free-associative bedroom pop made by an emotionally sincere freak who speaks through electronic music. Produced by Dakota Higgins, Part 2 is a passage through psychedelic glitches that attempts to marry the order of groovy beats with the disorder of electronic entropy; haunted and discordant yet syrupy and sweet. Part 3 consists of tracks produced collaboratively by both artists. (Yes, they were working remotely pre-pandemic.)

Accompanying the release of the digital album is a super limited edition of unique cassettes, hand-crafted by the two artists. Originally produced in the 1980s, the tapes feature archived lectures from religious self-help gurus from that time. In Naming Things' hands, the majority of the lectures have been dubbed over to house their album, but for the patient listener, several minutes of each lecture remains at the tail ends of either side of the tape; wisdom (or not) waiting to be discovered (or not).

Just remember: The Album Is Called Split.
